Alicia Coleman

Special Education Expert

Alicia Coleman-Clark is a Special Education Expert who can attend IEP meetings with parents, and holds an international certification in mediation and conflict resolution as well as a certification in communication and two certifications from William and Mary’s Law School in Special Education Law.

Alicia is also an Author who has published seven books in the Ava Goes…series that highlights her daughter living with autism. Just like Jim Peters our Executive Director, Alicia lives and understands the struggles and frustrations parents have seeking appropriate educational programs and services for our children. Alicia has been self-published since 2015. This is an incredible labor of love for both Alicia and her daughter. She is currently working on publishing another book to assist all special education parents with this series of information as her daughter graduates from high school this 2023 – 2024 school year.

Alicia has held numerous positions throughout her 23 years as a CA resident. Co-Chair of the Contra Costa County SELPA (Special Education Local Planning Area) and Chair of the Antioch Unified School District CAC (Community Advisory Committee). Alicia previously held the seat of District 5 Representative for the Contra Costa County FACT (Family and Children’s Trust) Committee. She was a Peer Mentor with Care Parent Network and was the Red Cross Liaison for the City of Antioch.

Alicia has also presented at numerous workshops, symposiums and lectures. She now is thrilled to be a part of the Special Education Division providing information new and experienced parents require to help our special students at all ages.

Alicia also holds an International Certification in Mediation and Conflict Resolution through Youth Intervention Network and Dialogue for Peaceful Change as well as a Certification in Communication through Healthy Families CA, Parent Liaison Certification from San Diego State University and Special Education Advocate Certification from the Coalition of Parents, Attorneys and Advocates. Alicia is also an internationally certified trainer in Mediation and Conflict Resolution.

Ava, Alicia’s daughter was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2.1/2 years old. Alicia stays in communication with experts and is informed of new changes and improvements in the special education services and programs. Alicia continues to dedicate her efforts to bring information to parents and families of children with special needs.
